The National Commission for Women (NCW) will recommend to the respective State home departments to provide training to police officers in handling cases of violence against women as lack of training was evident across the country.

NCW member Rekha Sharma said here on Thursday that the commission had initiated such as training for the police in the northern States. “Educating police officers is important in handling cases of violence against women.

During the two-day visit [to Coimbatore], I spoke to women officers - the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore district (rural) and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore on setting up a training centre. The Commission will speak to the Director-General of Police on this,” Ms. Sharma told The Hindu.
