ADGP promises impartial probe into caste violence
P. L. Punia, Chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), on Monday will visit three Dalit colonies in Naikkankottai village of Dharmapuri district, which witnessed caste violence last week.
He will be accompanied by Lata Priyakumar, member, NCSC, sources in the district administration said here on Sunday.
On Saturday, D. Venkatesan, director, NCSC, State Office in Chennai, visited the colonies, while on Sunday, T.K. Rajendran, Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) (Law and Order), took stock of the situation in the colonies and interacted with the affected people.
Mr. Rajendran, who visited the area with Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Salem Range, and Asra Garg and M. Ashok Kumar, Superintendents of Police in charge of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri, sought the cooperation of people in the investigation.
Mr. Rajendran assured people that the police would investigate the incident without partiality and the culprits would be brought to book. The government would also undertake rehabilitation measures through the district administration.
The people conveyed to him their appreciation for measures taken by the police in restoring order.
Body cremated
Meanwhile, the body of the caste Hindu Nagarajan (whose daughter, Divya, married a Dalit youth E. Ilavarasan) who had committed suicide last Wednesday was received from the Government Medical College, Dharmapuri, by his wife N. Thenmozhi and son N. Manisekar. It was taken to a crematorium in their native Chellankottai village on Sunday. About 40 men and women, including some PMK district-level leaders, participated in the funeral amid police security, sources said.

With all these incidents taking place, I seriously doubt is India still
a safe place for the under privileged. If your daughter eloped with a
guy (for that matter with a guy from any caste) it’s your mistake, you
dint bring her up with that love and attention. You should be ashamed
that neither you nor your caste nor your family was of any matter to her
before his love. This height of cannibalism to ransack 3 whole colonies
just for one individual’s agony. Now I strongly emphasis more and more
inter caste marriages should happen to bring people together.
I strongly condemn the line "The people conveyed to him their
appreciation for measures taken by the police in restoring order."..
Everybody in that area knows that, police in-action in this
incident..Knowing the prior intimation on this incident, police action
is dead slow and ignorant..
Now the Police officials threatening the under privileged people,
to given statement to the NCSC people to hide their mistakes..This the
clear example of how the administration trying to hide the facts..It
is sad that even The Hindu or this reporter does not investigate the
matter seriously..Don just publish News for the sake of Publishing..
Shame on these police personnel and the state government. These people come only when everything is over and the dalits are butchered. If they have any shame, then they should go and hang themselves. What a tragedy and the ADGP is visiting now.
