With the second phase of the All India NCC Girls Trek now in progress here the participants were joined by Commodore K.S. Aiyappa, Deputy Director General, NCC, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar.
He trekked along with the girls numbering 250 from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakand, West Bengal and Sikkim to the Staging Camp one located at the Government Higher Secondary School at Nanjanad on Friday and returned with them to the Base Camp at the Government Polytechnic College here on Saturday.
En route he underscored the importance of learning through formal and informal lectures and various awareness programmes.
The trek was flagged off by R.Vasantha Kumar, Chancellor, Karpagam University, Coimbatore. Addressing the cadets, he observed that such activities helped develop leadership qualities.
Colonel Irshad A. Khan, Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Coimbatore, said that the trek will inter alia motivate the participants to protect the environment and preserve nature.
