Natural History Society launched at Kotagiri

Earlier, he launched a forum called the Nilgiris Natural History Society promoted by the Keystone Foundation at Kotagiri. on Thursday. Launching the society and reading out its aims, the Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh said that it would be encouraged with a grant.

The promoters pointed out that the Society will endeavour to redefine life, nature and humanity through an ecologically sound and socially responsible value system.

Ecological awareness

It aims to promote ecological awareness among people through campaigns and programmes, undertake research activities towards furthering the knowledge base on the natural history of the region, network and exchange information with other organisations, groups and individuals, disseminate information among the public on ecological issues, natural history and promote and support research by other individuals, institutions and groups on areas of interest to the Society.

The Society hoped that people who believe that ecological societies are possible and that people and the biodiversity can co-exist will make it a movement.
