Natham Viswanathan appointed leader of TN Assembly

Natham R. Viswanathan will replace O. Panneerselvam who has been elevated as Chief Minister.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Natham R. Viswanathan has been appointed as the Leader of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, replacing O. Panneerselvam who has been elevated as Chief Minister, following the conviction and subsequent disqualification of AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa.

“Natham R Viswanathan, Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise is appointed as the Leader of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly,” a release from A M P Jamaludeen, Assembly Secretary, said in Chennai on Saturday.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly will meet on December 4, 2014 for its first session after the disqualification of Ms. Jayalalithaa, who was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment in an assets case by a Bengaluru special court on September 27.

Mr. Panneerselvam later took over as the Chief Minister of the state.
