Union Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy on Saturday blamed the police for registering bailable cases against those attacked his camp office and Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
He said it was unfortunate that the police released all those involved in the indiscriminate attack on the Ashram and his office. They should have been arrested under the variable non-bailable sections of Indian Penal Code. However, they were released without being sent to remand.
The soft approach of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy towards “anti social elements and criminals” actually encouraged them.
Mr. Narayanasamy said, the recent incidents clearly suggested that there was no rule of law in Puducherry. People had lost confidence in his government.
Police personnel, who had to ensure peace and harmony in the city, were mutely watching the illegal actions of anti social elements, who targeted important landmarks in the name of staging protests.
Demonstration
Meanwhile, the cadres of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress staged a demonstration for the second day here on Saturday.
In a related development, a team of police personnel went to the Ashram to record the statement of the representatives of the Ashram.
When contacted, a senior police officer told The Hindu that the ashram attack case would be altered with relevant sections as they had collected more evidence and inputs.
Strong sections including non-bailable would be incorporated against the accused.
