Namakkal MLA’s car knocks down students, one dead

An eight-year-old girl died and five students injured when they were hit by the car of K.P.P. Bhaskar, MLA representing Namakkal in the Tamil Nadu assembly, police said on Saturday.

The car driver Muthuswamy was arrested, police said. The deceased was identified as Sivaranjini, a class three student.

The MLA was on an election campaign for Sundaram, AIADMK candidate for the Lok Sabha election when his car hit the children, who were returning to their houses after school hours last evening, police said.
