March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:02 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was accorded a tumultuous welcome by the party rank and file on his maiden visit to Karimnagar after formation of Telangana, on Tuesday. As soon as he arrived in a helicopter, the party district unit leaders greeted him and presented bouquets.

Later, Mr. Naidu launched his procession by travelling in a bus. He garlanded the statue of party founder N.T. Rama Rao on the outskirts of Karimnagar, and also of social reformer Jyothibha Phule.

The police stepped up security arrangements by deploying forces all along the procession route from Ramakrishna Colony to Ambedkar stadium in the town to prevent any untoward incident. Following the call given by the MRPS activists to obstruct the TDP meeting, the police took into custody several MRPS activists throughout the district. MRPS president Manda Krishna, who is camping in a hotel in the town, was confined to his room. The police forces were closely monitoring the movement of visitors to the hotel and dispersing the mob on the roads in front of the hotel.
