NAAC team completes assessment

A ten-member experts team of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission which was on a three-day visit to Periyar University for re-accreditation completed its assessment process on Friday.

The NAAC team led by Bhoomitra Dev, former Vice-Chancellor, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, commended the development works launched in the university and the academic and research works undertaken by the different departments and research centres.

At the arrival of the team on Wednesday, C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor, at a meeting explained the various development works undertaken by the university with the Centre and State Government funding.

He also spoke about the projects in the offing.

Later the peer team members divided into three groups made enquiries with the development and research activities, infrastructure facilities, selection of curriculum etc in different departments with the heads, staff and students.

The NAAC team continued its assessment process on Thursday and Friday too, when the members met all the stake holders of the University to ascertain about the level of academic, research and other facilities in Departments of Studies, halls of residence etc.

At a meeting on Friday, Prof. Bhoomitra Dev hailed the various projects being implemented by the University. The introduction of photo affixed answer scripts, provision of application form online, publication of results within a few days after the completion of the examinations deserved commendation.

The university has more than 70,000 students on its rolls and it augured well for the entire society, he said.

He expressed the hope that the university will continue to serve the local society in the best possible way for its overall progress.

Later, he handed over the assessment report to Dr. Swaminathan.

K. Angamuthu, Registrar of the university; S. Leela, Controller of Examinations; R. Balagurunathan, NAAC coordinator; and others were present.

The Periyar University was given ‘B’ grade during the previous accreditation process by NAAC in 2007.

With its good showing and introduction of different departments and many job oriented courses, the Vice-Chancellor expressed the hope that the University with get A grade in the re-accreditation.
