Muthulakshmi produced in court

April 26, 2011 12:30 am | Updated 12:30 am IST - ERODE:

Muthulakshmi, wife of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, was produced before Fast Track Court II at Gobichettipalayam in the district on Monday in a case relating to ransom got in exchange for the release of Kannada actor Rajkumar.

The Kolathur police had registered a case that the ransom was handed over to Muthulakshmi. The case was handed over the Crime Branch CID that probed the kidnapping and ransom demand.

Muthulakshmi was arrested by the Karnataka police in late 2008 in connection with four cases of attack on police personnel and stations, allegedly by Veerappan and his gang and a case relating to the killing of a forest official. As she was in a prison in Mysore, Muthulakshmi could not attend the hearing in the Fast Track Court at Gobichettipalayam. The court had issued a warrant also. But, she could not be produced before it because of the trial in Karnataka. With the court in Karnataka discharging her in all the five cases, Muthulakshmi was produced before the Fast Track Court at Gobichettipalayam on Monday.

Police said that the court revoked the warrant as she appeared before it. As she had been discharged in all the five cases in Karnataka, Muthulakshmi would be able to attend the hearing in the Gobichettipalayam court hereafter.
