March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - RAMANATHAPURAM:

A murder case accused who was secured by the Crime Branch CID police for interrogation has allegedly attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison and was admitted to the district headquarters hospital here on Monday.

Police said that S. Pandi from Govindapuram in Paramakudi attempted suicide by consuming rat poison when he was brought to the CB CID office here for questioning in connection with the murder of K. Ranjitha of Paramakudi in 2013. He was admitted to the Government Hospital here and hospital sources said his condition was stable. Ranjitha was murdered for gain of nine sovereigns of jewellery when she was alone at her house.

As the local police could not crack the case and arrest the accused, the husband of the deceased who was abroad when the murder took place, moved the Madras Bench of Madurai High Court and obtained an order in favour of a CB CID probe.
