The Supervisory Sub-Committee on Mullaperiyar dam, led by V. Rajesh, Executive Engineer, Central Water Commission, inspected the main dam and the Baby dam on Thursday.

The committee members conducted a meeting at the First Mile area in Thekkadi in the evening. At the meeting, Tamil Nadu officials charged that Kerala forest officials did not allow Public Works Department officials to transport men and materials for maintenance work.

Kerala should allow them to transport materials to the dam site through Vallakadavu to undertake maintenance work at the Baby dam, they stressed.

The Kerala officials, however, said they did not have any objection to transporting of materials. But the Tamil Nadu officials should inform them of the nature of materials and their use at the dam site well in advance, they insisted.

The Kerala officials also tabled a proposal pressing Tamil Nadu to lift one of the shutters of the spillway near the dam site to enable police to drive their vehicle up to the check-post at the dam site from Vallakadavu as a wild elephant recently attacked their vehicle parked in the reserve forest area on the other side of the dam. Their demands were entered into the minutes of the meeting.
