Mudumalai Tiger Reserve reopened

May 16, 2014 03:43 am | Updated 03:43 am IST - UDHAGAMANDALAM:

Hundreds of tourists thronged the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, near here, on Thursday, when it was reopened after more than a month.

The Deputy Director of the reserve, D. Chandran, told The Hindu here that there was a good demand for elephant and van safaris as the weather was ideal.

The reserve was closed on April 10 because of dry conditions. As the situation improved with the recent rains, the reserve was reopened, he said. Mr. Chandran said most of the maintenance works taken up during the closure were completed. Room and safari reservation could be made at the MTR office in Udhagamandalam, and at Mudumalai. The visitors were sensitised to the dos and don’ts before they entered the reserve.
