The Medical Services Recruitment Board announcement that the rule of reservation will not apply in the recruitment of over 80 medical personnel for the Tamil Nadu Government Super Speciality Hospital, Chennai, has come in for criticism from a forum of political parties and bodies working for social justice.
This apart, a meeting of the Social Justice Protection Forum here on Thursday condemned the Board for proposing to recruit personnel on a contract basis, inviting applications from across the country and permitting those retired too to apply for the posts.
Voicing concern at the Board’s decision, members of the Forum led by Dravidar Kazhagam president K.Veeramani said a series of protests, beginning with a public meeting in Chennai on January 13, would be conducted.
In its notification (No.10) on December 27, the Board said it has been mandated by the Health and Family Welfare Department to recruit medical personnel for the hospital in various super specialities.
The hospital is coming up at the Omandurar government estate. The Board invited online applications for one post of Director and 83 posts of medical personnel. “Rule of reservation is not applicable for the posts of senior consultants, associate consultants, junior consultants, registrar and residents.
However, persons belonging to OBC/BC/MBC/SC/ST and women candidates are encouraged to apply,” the notification said. Employment at the Super Speciality Hospital will not come under the Tamil Nadu Medical Service.

According to the notification, it was in the Rs.2.50 lakh-Rs.50,000 band. Reading the resolution adopted at the meeting to presspersons, Mr.Veeramani said the Board’s advertisement was shocking and needed to be withdrawn.
Instead, the process should be completed on the basis of the 69 job reservation policy. While the public meeting was to create awareness about the notification, the forum would come up with other actions if the government did not respond to its appeal, he added.
Other parties part of the forum are Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, represented by T.K.S.Elangovan, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, whose leader Thol.Thirumavalavan participated in the meeting, Indian Union Muslim League, Manitheneya Makkal Katchi and host of organisations are part of the forum. Mr.Veeramani said there was no shortage of medical professionals in the State and the quality of their services was not affected due to the reservation policy.
