More trains to tackle crisis

Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar has said that the government has sought the help of the Southern Railway to tide over the public transport crisis.

Three special unreserved trains will be operated between Chennai Egmore and Tirunelveli on May 15. Train No. 6067 will leave Chennai Egmore at 7.40 a.m. and arrive Tirunelveli at 8 p.m. This train will be operated on May 19 also.

In the return direction, Train No. 6068 will leave Tirunelveli at 8.10 p.m. and arrive at Chennai Egmore at noon.

Additional train bearing No. 6069 will leave Chennai Egmore at 11.45 p.m. and reach Tiruneveli at 12.35 p.m.

Special unreserved trains will be operated between Coimbatore and Chennai Central. The train will leave Coimbatore at 8 a.m. and reach Chennai Central by 4.15 p.m. In the return direction, the train will depart from Chennai Central at 8.30 p.m. and reach Coimbatore by 5 p.m.

The Southern Railway will also operate special suburban trains on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram-Chengalpet section, Beach-Velachery Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), Central MMC/Beach to Tiruvallur via Avadi and Central MMC/Beach to Ponneri.
