CHENNAI: In a few months, residents of Dindigul and Ramanathapuram will not have to travel long distances to Madurai or Tiruchi for passport-related services. The Department of Posts is identifying places to open more Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK) across the State.

The department has partnered with the Union Ministry of External Affairs for passport-related services in places without such facilities. Residents who apply for passports online through the passport portal may schedule appointments at these kendras to complete the procedure. Passports will be delivered to them through speed post, say officials of the postal department.

Some of the Post Office Passport Seva Kendras to be opened soon are in Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Avinasi and Rasipuram. “We are planning to open similar facilities in Tiruppur or Perambalur and Pudukottai or Aranthangi depending on the availability of sites,” said R. Anand, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region.

The Postal Department started offering the service from March 2017 and Tamil Nadu has eight such kendras. Salem was the first post office to have a POPSK
