Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor said here on Thursday that by refusing to wear a skullcap offered to him at a meeting, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, sent an unmistakable sign of bigotry and rejection of Muslims.

“This is in keeping with his disgraceful agenda of prejudice and hatred. The man who has been a Pracharak of the RSS, his true colours have been manifested in his rejection of a simple gesture,” Mr. Tharoor told presspersons.

Asked about Chief Minister Jayalalithaa attacking the BJP but remaining silent on Mr. Modi, Mr. Tharoor compared their relationship to gestures of Bharatanatyam.

“One day Ms. Jayalalithaa says Modi and BJP are bad, next day Mr. Modi says we still love you,” he said.
