Calling upon media houses to focus more on the achievements of one billion Indians across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday observed here that the media must take extra effort to maintain credibility.
Speaking at the 75th year celebrations of Tamil daily Dina Thanthi , Mr. Modi said: “I strongly believe that reform in media, wherever required, can only come from within through introspection.”
While the traditional telegram service has become obsolete over the years, Tamil daily Dina Thanthi (Daily Telegram) continued to reach the people even to this day. He also underlined the significance of the press in creating a collective awareness among the people.
The Prime Minister also recalled the contributions of the regional language press during the freedom struggle.
Help for State
Mr. Modi also assured all possible help to the State government to handle the challenges posed by the ongoing Northeast monsoon. He also condoled the death of senior journalist R. Mohan.
Mr. Modi handed over the C.P. Adithanar Literary Award to IAS officer V. Irai Anbu, C.P. Adithanar Elder Tamil Scholar Award to Erode Thamizhanban and C.P. Adhithanar Lifetime Achievement Award to industrialist V.G. Santhosham.
In his speech, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said that the Prime Minister was working day and night to lead the country into a new era.
Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Union Minister of State Pon. Radhakrishnan, Daily Thanthi Group’s Managing Director S. Balasubramanian Adityan were present in the function.
