Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan said that the Government would soon implement its poll promises of distributing free mobile phones to women and two wheelers at 50 per cent subsidy and urged the people to support the government in the coming local body elections.

Addressing after distributing loans and credit facilities under various schemes for a total amount of Rs. 6 crore to women Self Help Groups (SHGs) at a function organised by the District Central Cooperative Bank here on Saturday, he said on the very first day after assuming office Chief Minister Jayalaithaa signed five files, fulfilling the poll promises.

He said during the campaign for the Assembly elections, people demanded the closing down of TASMAC shops, the retail outlets selling liquor and the Chief Minister as promised in the election manifesto, had closed down 500 shops and reduced the timing by three hours in the first phase towards imposing total prohibition.

Having fulfilled the promises of providing eight grams of gold under marriage assistance scheme and ordered 100 units of free power, the Chief Minister would soon implement the promises with respect to free mobile phones and subsidised two wheelers to women, he also said.

At a function chaired by Collector S. Natarajan in Kilakarai, the Minister distributed loans to the tune of Rs. 74.28 lakh to the minorities. Addressing the functions, the Collector said the new crop insurance scheme unveiled by the government would benefit the farmers to large extent.

He said e-procurement system for paddy and payment through Electronic Clearing Service (ECS) would also benefit the farmers. MP A. Anwara Raja, Joint Registrar of Cooperatives Senthamizh Selvi, AIADMK district secretary M. A. Muniasamy were among others who attended the functions.
