MLA’s PSO, friend killed in accident

They were going to Dindigul railway station to pick up Jakkaiyan

An Armed Reserve police constable, M. Kumar (29), and a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation employee, A. Kannaiah (51) of Theni district, were killed when the car in which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a truck on Kumuli-Dindigul Highway at Chithaiyankottai junction in the early hours of Sunday.

Kumar, the personal security officer of Cumbum MLA S.T.K. Jakkaiyan, and Kannaiah, a friend of the ruling AIADMK MLA, were proceeding to Dindigul railway station to pick up Mr. Jakkaiyan, who was scheduled to arrive there by a train.

In the impact of the collision, the car was pushed into a roadside gorge. The duo were killed on the spot. Their bodies were sent to Dindigul Government Hospital.

The truck, laden with garlic bags, was proceeding to Theni from Madhya Pradesh.

Lorry driver Govindaraj (40) was arrested by Sempatti police.
