MLA detained at police station

June 26, 2011 01:44 am | Updated 01:44 am IST - SALEM:

Mettur MLA S.R. Parthiban was detained at Omalur police station near here for nearly two hours on charges of using abusive language against a sub-inspector and other policemen on duty on Friday night. He was permitted to leave the station after tendering an apology.

Highly placed police sources told The Hindu that the MLA barged into the station with his men and wanted to know whether the police initiated any action on a complaint filed by one of the party cadres in connection with a civil dispute.

Before the police could inform him that a complaint had been registered, the MLA reportedly started using ‘harsh' language.

The police informed senior officials and asked the MLA to remain at the station for further action.
