The city police on Thursday arrested a 16-year-old boy on charges of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in Omalur here. The police said the boy, a class X dropout, had earlier worked at a tea stall and was currently without a job. On Thursday, he took a Class III student of the same area to his house promising her to give food. There he committed the crime.

On hearing the girl’s alarm, a neighbour alerted others and rescued the girl. However, the boy fled the scene. Based on a complaint, the All Woman Police Station in Suramangalam registered a case and arrested the boy. He was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and lodged at Juvenile Home in the city.
