Housing Minister R. Vaithilingam and Food Minister R. Kamaraj have away Baby Care Kits in government hospitals in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts on Saturday.
Speaking after disbursing the kits among lactating mothers at Government Hospitals in Tiruvarur and Mannargudi, Mr. Kamaraj said the kits, which included 16 articles that were worth a total of Rs. 4,000 in the open market, were being procured for Rs. 1,400 through the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation and distributed among the mothers.
At Mannargudi GH, Mr. Kamaraj declared open a digital X-ray unit established at a cost of Rs. 99 lakh. He explained that the patients needed to pay only Rs. 50 for digital x-ray recording at the Mannargudi GH instead of Rs. 300 being charged in private centres. Tiruvarur Collector M. Mathivanan, Nagapattinam MP K. Gopal, Tiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital Dean AL Meenakshisundaram, and Joint Director of Health Senguttuvan were present.
In Thanjavur, Mr. Vaithilingam distributed the kits among mothers at the Government Rajah Mirasdar Hospital and said that it had been planned to spend Rs. 3.37 crore a year for the supply of special child care kits in Thanjavur district. The idea was to ensure the safety and health of both the mother and her baby, he added. The scheme would benefit all mothers who were confined for delivery in Government Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, and public health centres in the urban areas.
District Collector N. Subbaiyan, Thanjavur MP K. Parasuraman, MLAs M. Rengasamy (Thanjavur), M. Rethinasamy (Tiruvaiyaru), and R. Duraikannu (Papanasam), Mayor Savitri Gopal, Dean of Thanjavur Medical College M. Singaravel, and Deputy Director of Health Subramanyam were present.
