Six migrant workers critically injured in Coimbatore industrial accident

Six migrant workers were critically injured when a boiler in the tyre melting unit where they were employed at, burst, on Thursday afternoon. Chettipalayam Police attached to Coimbatore District Police identified the victims as Bikas (21), Birujan (21), Saroj (21), Kunal (20), Dharun (25) and Preertham (25) from West Bengal.

The police said that Sri Nagajothi Oil Factory at Kallampalayam near Chettipalayam at the outskirts of the city – the unit where the incident took place – extracted oil by melting worn out tyres. The victims were rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where their condition was said to be critical as they had suffered 100 per cent burns.

A senior hospital authority said that the skin of all the six victims was completely burnt. Efforts were underway to get a declaration from the victims. Hospital authorities said that they would be putting the victims under sedation after they gave the declaration and take efforts medically to reduce their suffering.
