January 06, 2018 01:01 am | Updated 01:01 am IST - CHENNAI

The fourth National Montessori Conference, organised by the Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF), will be held on the theme ‘Swayam: Independent thought, Independent action’ on January 12 and 13 at the Music Academy.

IMF, an affiliate of Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), is a pan-Indian organisation aiming to spread and support Montessori education in the country.

The conference will see parents, Montessori teachers and other professionals discussing the importance of independence in education and how to balance the need to protect children with the need for them to follow their own path.

Rukmini Ramachandran, managing trustee of the IMF, said that Maria Montessori’s thoughts on the system of education named after her, despite being formulated years ago, were still very relevant in the current scenario.
