A final-year medical student was killed on the spot and the driver of the car he was travelling in was injured when the vehicle rammed a roadside tree at Surakkapatti near Kannivadi on Tuesday.
The deceased was A. Arun Balachandar (23) of Bodi. The car driver, D. Prabhu (22), was rushed to Dindigul Government Hospital for treatment.
The driver swerved the vehicle to the left to avoid hitting a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. In the process, he lost control of the vehicle, which skidded off the road and hit the tree.
Arun was going to a medical college in Coimbatore.
