The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University is conducting a pilot study for introducing online evaluation of answer papers.

The answer papers of 121 postgraduate dental students were scanned and sent to teachers for evaluation. The teachers were also provided with the answer keys to prevent discrepancies in marking, Vice-Chancellor D. Shantharam said.

He said the university was awaiting the Medical Council of India’s permission for opening a college on the premises of the multi-super specialty hospital on the Omandurar Estate. “The government has shown the Kasturba Gandhi Government Maternity Hospital as being attached to the proposed college. It has been decided to build general surgical and medical wards to treat all patients till a 500-bed hospital is constructed adjacent to the college,” Dr. Shantharam said.

As many as 14,260 students will receive their diplomas from Chancellor K. Rosaiah at the 26th convocation of the university scheduled for Tuesday.

Around 71 per cent of the graduands are girls, and 4,512 candidates will receive their degrees in person.

Of a total of 175 medals to be given, Madras Medical College student P.L. Vidya has bagged 10: seven gold, two silver and the university’s medal. M. Rajiv of the Thanjavur Medical College has bagged five medals in the postgraduate general surgery category. In the general medicine category, M. Krishna Mohan of the Tirunelveli Medical College has won four medals.
