Learning in mother tongue Tamil will give a fillip to creativity and hence Tamil medium has been introduced in engineering courses from this academic year.

From the next academic year, medical studies will also be introduced in Tamil, said Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy.

He was speaking at a function here on Friday held to give away financial aid to meritorious students. Mr. Ponmudy said that during the Karunanidhi regime educational revolution was taking place. The notable announcement made by Chief Minister Karunanidhi in the just-concluded World Classical Tamil Conference that priority would be accorded in jobs to those who studied in Tamil would certainly give a thrust to learning in Tamil.

Mr. Ponmudy said that English could be the link language but Tamil should be the medium of instruction. He said a free seat would be offered in Surya Engineering College to the first ranker from Thiruvennainallur government girls' higher secondary school.
