Special medical camps for differently-abled children in the age group of 6 to 18 years will be held at the government schools in the district from August 5 to 25.
Organised by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a team of doctors would screen the children and after assessment they would be referred for further treatment and assistive devices and surgery. They would be given national identity card, if needed, financial assistance and also their medical assistance would be covered under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
Camps would be held in Government Higher Secondary School in Puduchatram (August 5), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Erumapatty (August 6), Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Mallasamudram (August 9), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Mohanur (August 10), Government Tribal Residential Higher Secondary School, Semmedu, Kolli Hills (August 11), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Tiruchengodu (August 12), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Vennandur (August 13), Government Higher Secondary School in Rasipuram (August 16), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Namakkal (August 17), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Senthamangalam (August 18), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Namagiripettai (August 19), Panchayat Union Primary School at Avarangkadu, Pallipalayam (August 20), Government Higher Secondary School in Elachipalayam (August 23), Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Paramathi (August 24) and Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Kabilarmalai (August 26).
Officials said that for 2015-16, camps were held in 15 unions in which 2,949 children participated. As many as 616 children were recommended for gadgets while 80 for surgery and 162 were provided identity cards.
