He made the country proud by bagging a bronze medal at the world karate championship held in South Africa in 2009. M. Dhanasekaran, Sub-Inspector of Police (Armed Reserve), Chennai, also represented India at international karate events conducted in Malaysia and Japan. On all the three occasions, he travelled at his own expense.

Mr. Dhanasekaran is eager to take part in the World Karate Championship to be held in Japan next month. However, his application seeking leave has been kept pending. “I already lost an opportunity to participate in a karate tournament held at Hong Kong because some immediate superiors did not forward my leave application to the Police Commissioner. Now they are again delaying the process by asking me to meet one official after the other…the last date for applying visa is fast approaching.”

An ardent lover of martial arts, Dhanasekaran had a black belt when he joined the police force in 1978.
