MDMK to protest proposed dam across Siruvani

June 16, 2012 11:29 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:47 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will hold a protest at Mettupalayam on Sunday to protest the Kerala government's reported move to construct a dam across the Siruvani river.

The report that the Kerala government proposed to construct dam across the river had caused concern among the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly those in Coimbatore and Erode districts.

With the aim of obstructing the flow of water from sources supplying water to Tamil Nadu, the Kerala government had revived projects, which Tamil Nadu had objected to.

If the six tmcft. water inflow to the Bhavani is stopped, it will cripple the water supply to Coimbatore and affect farmers in Erode, a party release stated.
