Mason hacked; in-laws arrested

In-laws attacked Ramajayam with sickle and stick

A mason was hacked to death near Chengam on Saturday evening. His father-in-law and brother-in-law were arrested in this regard.

According to police, Ramajayam (35) of Melapunjai village was working as a mason in Chennai along with his family (wife and two children). They came to the village during the Pongal holiday. He developed a quarrel with his wife under the influence of liquor on Saturday and he is alleged to have beaten her.

Angered by this she went to her maternal home in the same village where Ramajayam followed and started beating people there. His father-in-law Kuppan (60) and Murthi (37), brother-in-law were irked by his behaviour. They started attacking Ramajayam with sickle and stick. A severely injured Ramajayam died subsequently.

On receiving information Deputy Superintendent of Police K.S.Sundaramurthi and Mel Chengam Inspector Kesavan rushed to the spot and arrested Kuppan and Murthi.
