Quite a number of victims of the tragic bus accident near Vellore, in which 21 passengers were charred to death, hailed from Pollachi and nearby areas. The victims included S. Divya, a software professional on her way back home for her betrothal scheduled for Wednesday; Jebarani returning home to take examinations as part of her higher studies; and Karthik and Bharath, auditors from Chennai who were on their way to the Tea Research Institute at Valparai on duty.

A doctor, T. Subramanian (29), returning to Pollachi after leaving his pregnant wife Paavai at her mother's place, was killed in the accident. He had just recovered after being involved in a road accident.

Venkatesan, who used to run a fancy goods store in Pollachi and was returning home after attending a function in Chennai, and Vijayakumar (45), a businessman from Avalpatti near Pollachi, who was returning from Chennai, also lost their lives.

Vijayalakshmi (55) of Ramasamy Nagar in Udumalpet, who was coming back home with her daughter Vimal (37), who had just returned after visiting her husband in the U.S., and Vimal's son Pranav (10) a student of a school in Kodaikanal, were among the victims.

Vimal and Vijayalakshmi had boarded the bus after leaving Vimal's daughter Janu at her sister Aparna's house in Chennai. Yet another victim was identified as Sakthivel of Sambamurthy Nagar.
