Man sentenced to 7 years for abetting wife's suicide

The Fast Track Mahila Court, Tiruvannamalai on Thursday sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment for abetting his wife to commit suicide in 2005.

P.U. Chemmal, Judge, Fast Track Mahila Court, Tiruvannamalai, sentenced Lourdu Raj to two years imprisonment and Rs. 1,000 penalty for offences under Section 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and seven years imprisonment and Rs. 2,000 fine under Section 306 (Abetment of suicide) of Indian Penal Code, R. Shanthakumari, special public prosecutor said.
