Man held on murder charge

The police arrested a 22-year-old man on the charge of murdering a 37-year-old woman at Salem Railway Junction here on Saturday.

The Railway Police received information from passengers that a man and a woman were fighting on the railway track near platform number two here in the early hours of the day. The police arrived at the spot and found a woman with head injuries.

Admitted to hospital

She was admitted to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital where she died later.

Inquiries with M. Suresh of Kondalampatti revealed that he was consuming liquor with the woman Kamala, a rag picker and a native of Andhra Pradesh.

An altercation broke out between them and he pushed her on the track and hit her.

A case of murder was registered by the police and he was arrested and lodged at Salem Central Prison.
