Sivakasi All Women Police have arrested a 55-year-old vegetable vendor, M. Marikalai, on a charge of sexually assaulting two minor girls at his house in Nathikudi under Maraneri police station limits on Saturday.

The police said the accused took the children, aged eight and 11 years, to his house and sexually assaulted them.

When a relative of one of the girls noticed the children coming out of Marikalai’s house crying, he enquired with them. The girls reportedly told him that the accused took them, who were playing in the locality, to his house stating that he would give them money. Later, he allegedly sexually assaulted them, they said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the father of one of the victims, the police arrested Marikalai.
