MADURAI

A 47-year-old man, J. Hidhayathullah of Tahsildar Nagar here, was arrested at Madurai airport on Wednesday for posing as an IPS officer with a fake identity card.

The police said Hidhayathullah went to the airport around 5.30 p.m. to receive one of his friends. He told the Central Industrial Security Force personnel deployed for airport security that he was an IPS officer. He was then asked to get a pass from the Airport Terminal Manager.

Even as he went there to collect the pass, the CISF personnel got suspicious of his conduct and alerted the local police.

A Sub-Inspector enquired him and sought his identity card. The man, who claimed to be the Superintendent of Police of Kancheepuram district, flashed an identity card. However, there was a mismatch between the name recorded in the identity card and what he told the SI.

The SI could make out that the identity card was fake. Hidhayathullah was produced at Perungudi police station and booked for forgery and cheating.

The police said the man was into real estate business.
