Man held for kidnapping girl

A 19-year-old youth who kidnapped a 14-year-old school girl was arrested by the police here on Wednesday.

The Class IX girl of Government High School in Elachipalayam area in Tiruchengode taluk went to school on February 2.

But she did not return home in the evening.

Efforts by her parents and relatives to trace her failed. Based on a complaint, Elachipalayam police registered a case under Section 363 (kidnapping), 366 (inducing woman to compel her to marriage) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Inquiries revealed that the youth had forcibly abducted her.

The police rescued the girl from the youth’s relative’s house in Muthugapatti.

He was produced in the court and sent to sub-jail in Paramathi Velur.

The girl was sent to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital for medical examination.
