Man held for female infanticide

Disappointed over the birth of female baby again, a 30-year-old man forced his wife to kill the child on June 9. The couple, who had three girl children, were expecting a male child in the fourth pregnancy. The incident occurred at Errangadu village near Pennagaram in the district.

Madhesh had forced his wife Mala, who delivered the baby on June 3 at the Government Headquarter’s Hospital in Pennagaram, to feed it with “kallipaal,” a poisonous solution. The child died instantly. Though family members were shocked over the sudden death of the baby, they thought it had died of natural causes and buried the body in the backyard of the couple’s residence. Suspecting something amiss, the villagers had informed the officials.

Following a complaint from a Village Administrative Officer, the police registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of IPC and arrested Madhesh on Wednesday, said a release from Asra Garg, Superintendent of Police. The body was exhumed and a post-mortem conducted on Wednesday.
