The Mahila Court here sentenced a 50-year-old-man to life in prison after finding him guilty of raping his daughter, a mentally challenged minor girl, who became pregnant and delivered a boy.

Judge Balakrishnan sentenced Subramaniyan, a painter, of Thanjavur district to four consecutive life terms for repeated sexual assault on the mentally challenged girl aged 17.

A complaint from Subramaniyan's wife to the police said the accused had first molested the girl when she was away from home. He had also threatened his daughter with murder if she spilled the beans to anyone. Silenced by the threat, the victim was repeated raped by Subramaniyan.

On March 27, 2017, she complained of severe stomach ache and was rushed to a doctor, who confirmed that she was pregnant. Subsequently, she delivered a boy. After persistent enquiry from her mother, the victim pointed fingers at her father. The woman filed a complaint against her husband.

Judge Balakrishnan handed Subramaniyan four consecutive life terms and another six months in jail for intimidating the girl with threat of murder. He would serve the life term without any remission.
