Man gets 10 years RI for rape

The Mahila Court here sentenced a man to 10-years rigorous imprisonment for rape of a 16-year-old girl here on Wednesday.

The accused Rajappan (44), a farm labourer of Bollupalli, was found guilty of raping the girl in mid 2013.

According to the police, the victim-survivor’s ordeal came to light after her mother suspected her to have conceived. Later, it was revealed that the accused Rajappan had raped her twice during the period and had threatened to keep silent. A case was registered and the accused was arrested.

On conclusion of the prosecution and defence hearing, the Mahila Court judge Thirumagal sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment under the POCSO Act and a fine of Rs.5,000.
