Residents inform police

A man was found dead on the terrace of a house near VVD signal on Palayamkottai Road here on Saturday.

Residents of the locality informed the police after sensing a foul smell from the decomposed body.

The dead body bore cut injuries on head and face.

Liquor bottle was found at the site, police sources said. Police suspected foul play behind the incident.

Initially, Tuticorin South Police filed a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of Cr.P.C. and later altered it to Section 302 (murder) of IPC.

The deceased was identified as A. Gavaskar (28) of Barathi Nagar, New Harbour, Tuticorin.

He came to visit his relatives, who were away from home.

Investigations revealed that he was accused in a murder case in Udhagamandalam and also involved in an attempt to murder case in Tuticorin.

Based on a complaint lodged by Maheswari (23), wife of the deceased,

Tuticorin South Police have filed a case. Investigation is underway.
