K. Muthukrishnan (55) of MGR Nagar in Puthugramam allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his shop at Velayuthapuram near Kovilpatti on Friday.

Police suspect that he might have killed himself after constant torture from an usurer.

A suicide note left by the victim was recovered. It revealed that Muthukrishnan had borrowed Rs.1,000 from Shanmuga Duraipandi of Vasantham Nagar at Kovilpatti four years ago and he had paid interest at an exorbitant rate. Still, Duraipandi tortured Muthukrishnan demanding more money.

Based on a complaint lodged by Mariappan (30), son of the deceased, Kovilpatti East police have registered a case under Section 174 of the Cr.P.C. Post-mortem was performed at Kovilpatti Government Headquarters Hospital. Police investigation is under way.
