A 35-year-old man charged with robbing a bank customer of Rs. 2 lakh was arrested by Karaikal town police on Thursday.

The police said that CCTV cameras installed on the bank premises captured the images of a robber taking to heels with the money withdrawn by a customer. The accused was nabbed within a day while he was waiting at a bus stop near Karaikal.

The man was later identified as Kandhamoorthy (35), son of Chandrakasu from Neduncadu locality in Karaikal. He visited the State Bank of India branch at Bharathiyar Street for some work. At the same time, Noor Mohammed (57) of Karaikal had withdrawn money from his account. After withdrawing Rs. 2 lakh, when Noor Mohammed was engaged in withdrawing some more cash, Mr. Kandhamoorthy managed to lift the Rs. 2 lakh cash kept on the top of the table without the knowledge of Noor Mohammed.

Noor Mohammed lodged a complaint with Karaikal town police and the police retrieved the CCTV footage and cornered Kandhamoorthy.
