The Semmanchery police arrested a 26-year-old man from his hideout in Karapakkam on charges of raping a Tripura woman staying in Sholinganallur.

The police gave the name of the accused as Zakir Hussain, from Tripura, who allegedly raped a 20-year-old-woman, at knifepoint, at her residence at Sholinganallur here, on Friday.

Based on a complaint from her husband, the police traced Hussain.

On investigation, the police found that Hussain was hired by a woman in Tripura, who was also married to the victim’s husband. “The woman in Tripura decided to hire Hussain, who is her friend, to kill the other wife, whose existence she had come to know recently. She reportedly paid him a sum of ₹50,000 for the hit job,” sources said.

Zakir first came with a plan to murder her with a knife. But he changed his mind and raped her. He left after threatening her.
