Maldives President to attend World Tamil meet

Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed on Saturday said he would attend the World Tamil Conference scheduled for June in Coimbatore.

After meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at his residence, he told reporters that they discussed “how best we can cooperate among India and Maldives with the two having had very long and good relations“.

He said he would attend the Conference with a delegation.

Mr. Nasheed said he had a “fruitful engagement and conversation” with the Chief Minister.

He is in Chennai as part of an official visit and is scheduled to attend some business engagements.

The five-day Conference, which will start on June 23, will see international and national Tamil scholars participating in it.
