Woman Sub Inspector alleges that he failed to keep the promise of marriage
The police on Saturday arrested S. Thangaraj (33), a judicial magistrate posted at Coonoor, following a complaint from a woman Sub Inspector that he had cheated her by making a false promise of marriage.
The All-Woman Police Station in Palladam registered a complaint of sexual assault, cheating and criminal intimidation based on the woman’s complaint.
The accused was produced at judicial magistrate court in Tirupur and remanded in judicial custody till July 12.
Police sources said the woman SI filed a complaint that the magistrate had promised to marry her following a courtship. She first met Thangaraj about one-and-a-half years ago through a friend of hers who was his client. At that time, Thangaraj was practising as a lawyer at Perundurai court in Erode district and the woman was a Sub-Inspector trainee in Kanyakumari district. According to the complaint, the woman and Thangaraj decided to get married last June. They went to Tiruchendur temple to get married, but Thangaraj backed out at the last moment, promising that he would marry her soon after he became a magistrate, the sources said.
But even after he became magistrate, on October 11, 2012, Thangaraj did not keep his word and laid down conditions for the marriage.
When she refused to accept the demands and insisted on getting married, the accused threatened her, the sources said.
