The University of Madras will start the inspection process for affiliating new colleges and courses for the coming year and will complete it by the middle of April, said Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam on Tuesday.
He had asked the chairman of the Board of Studies to draw up a checklist to be used in evaluating new colleges and courses, and this would be drawn up by the end of the week.
The checklist, with details on the infrastructure, faculty, laboratories and other requirements, would be sent to all colleges seeking affiliation. The process would also be computerised, he added.
It would help the inspection committee in transparent evaluations and also cut down on delays, he said. This would provide students with all required information about colleges by the time the examination results were announced.
Fourteen new colleges have applied to the University of Madras and 74 new courses were proposed to be started in the coming year, he added.
