M. Natarajan filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Madras High Court bench in Madurai on Wednesday apprehending arrest by the Thanjavur police in a case filed against him and 12 others under the Public Nuisance Act.
In his petition, Mr. Natarajan claimed that the inspector of the Thanjavur taluk police station booked him and 12 others under Sections 188, 353 r/w 109 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 (1) of the Public Nuisance Act on the charges of using mike sets and speakers after 10 p.m. for three days, from November 8 to November 10, during the inaugural function of the Mullivaikal Martyrs Memorial at Villar.
Mr. Natarajan pleaded for the grant of the anticipatory bail contending that he attended the inauguration on November 8 only as a chief guest. He was neither associated with the Ulaga Tamilar Peramaippu Trust, which constructed the memorial, nor the organising committee of the inauguration, he argued.
He also undertook to cooperate with the police in the investigation. The case is likely to be heard on Thursday.
