The Madras High Court has granted pre-arrest bail to lottery baron S.Martin in a criminal case filed by the Adambakkam police.
Justice G.M.Akbar Ali while granting anticipatory bail noted that two other accused in the same case, from whom a huge amount had been seized, had been given bail and he saw no reason to treat the petitioner differently.
The Judge also imposed stringent conditions.
According to prosecution, the police seized Rs.7.20crore from the house of one Nagarajan on March 12. Investigation revealed that Martin was dealing with lottery tickets of Sikkim and Nagaland, which are banned in Tamil Nadu. However, they were printing and selling such lottery tickets to innocent purchasers, thereby cheating the public. The money obtained amounted to unlawful gain. Hence, the police registered a case against three persons including Martin. Apprehending his arrest, he filed the present petition seeking to grant anticipatory bail.
